About Me
Hello from the Go Dairy Free test kitchen!
My name is Alisa Fleming, and I founded the informational siteΒ Go Dairy Free in 2004. In late 2008, I went into print withΒ Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance, and Casein-Free Living.
Alisa Cooks, formerly known as One Frugal Foodie, is my personal recipe and food blog where I enjoy sharing many of the dairy-free goodies that emerge from my kitchen. All recipes are taste-tested by my wonderful husband (and technical support), Tony. We live in North Lake Tahoe with our loving cat, and enjoy hiking, skiing, and of course, eating.

Hi
I have just come across this blog today and think it is great. I have built my own website called frugal living tips and one of the areas is frugal cooking. What i was hope for was that vistors would come and submit their own frugal recipes etc. I was wondering if i could use several of your recipes on my site, the pages would include a link to your site so that you would benefit from search engine link popularity.
I hope you will allow me to do this or if you prefer you could submit them yourself. Your recipes are great and would benefit my vistors. The pages for my frugal cooking tips is here http://www.frugal-living-tips.com/frugal-recipes.html it contains a link to the submit form.
I hope to hear from you soon and i hope you didn’t mind me contacting you like this but i am trying to find quality links and content so i am contacting people indivdually.
Anyway i hope to hear from you soon. Kate
Alisa! How did I not know that this site was here… that you had your own food blog!!! I love it. Added it to my list and will add to my site. You are amazing!

I Absolutely love your motto! Eating well should never be unaffordable. π Thanks for leading by example!
I agree. One can make delicious meals without spending a lot of money. It only takes some thought and imagination.
I totally agree with you, eating well/healthy shouldn’t be expensive and the best part is that you can prepare it in the comfort of our own home with a touch of creativity!
thanks for the comment on Non-Dairy Eggless Brownies π
Love your blog’s theme! I hate paying more than I have to when it comes to ingredients for cooking. I try to be frugal whenever I can, too! Great concept!
Somehow found my way here from twitter and glad I did. Love to come across others ‘eating well on the lean.’ Will add you to my Market to Mouth blogroll.
Louise.

Nice website and very informative. I’m trying to experiment more with dairy free and wheat free recipes since there is a growing demand for them these days.
Came over from $5 Dinners and so glad I found you! I am ALWAYS trying to feed my family good clean foods but stay within a budget! Looking forward to following your site and getting some yummy tips!

Hi Alisa,
Love your website name and especially love your site. Im going to make the strawberry smoothie you posted. I am lucky to not have food alergies, but I like the idea of not using a lot of gluten products when cooking. My friend and fellow blogger gasp now when something is expensive in a resturaunt and we can make it at home so much quicker. I am going to try a bunch of your recipes and blog about them.

I consider myself very frugal, very much a healthy eater, so your focus definitely appeals to me! I also have a blog with a healthy focus. Look forward to checking back!

I also wonder if someday there will be a vegan channel for us and the allergies people have in food.
I got your book about one month ago, and I love it! Thanks for your wonderful recipes and great advice.
Love your blog! Would you mind if we listed you on our blogroll?

What a great site! I just forwarded several recipes to my friend Cate who has just gone gluten-free. I plan on trying several myself (even though I’m not GF) …they sound so yummy!
Hi Alisa, I’ve been 100% GFCF for a number of years now, and I love your sites. @twitter too!
Wow, what a funny place the internet is! My name is also Alisa, and I also avoid dairy, and I just started to blog a bit about food. I never would have guessed I’d find another Alisa with such similar interests!
Anyway, your recipes look wonderful, and I can’t wait to try them!
Hi,
I just found your website and will definitely be trying a bunch of your recipes! I have a dairy-free blog as well: http://maviesanslaitage.blogspot.com/. I’m allergic to all dairy (not lactose intolerant!!), so everything on the blog is completely dairy free. I was wondering if you were also allergic, or if it’s a choice to be dairy free. I have a cheese-loving husband who loves my dairy free desserts, but still always needs to add cheese to my cheese-free dinners. I’m trying to break him from this addiction.. but it’s very hard to find completely dairy-free cheese where I live.
Hi Shelley, I’m allergic to dairy too. That can be hard if your spouse or family members aren’t in full support. It makes it so much easier when they follow the same diet as you at home. The cheese addiction is the hardest to break too.
What I usually recommend is planning out a month of meals that don’t require cheese. Usually when planning menus for cutting out cheese, I will add more salt and fat to compensate, as that helps to cover for the flavor and texture that some people miss with cheese. Don’t skimp on flavor and try to get him to taste them without the cheese first! One meal at a time you may win him over.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m looking forward to checking out your blog.
I love your blog and your recipes. I am lucky also to have no allergy. But loving learning about the different options of cooking methods to cater for different health requirements. π
Brand new to your site. Just discovered I’m lactose intolerant and NOT liking it. I am/was a HUGE dairy fan. All new experience for me but I swear I’m already feeling better with the changes I’ve made. Looking forward to spending time reading past blog entries! Can’t wait to check out your book too!
We have discovered our 14 yr old daughter is lactose intolerant this year. So far we have found substitutes for most dairy products, but nothing to substitute for cream, sour cream & reduced cream. Any ideas?
Hi Helen, do you have a copy of my book, Go Dairy Free? Substitutes (homemade and store-bought) for all of those are in the book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0979128625. Also, if you are looking for products to buy specifically, I have the No Dairy Product Lists – http://www.godairyfree.org/Product-List-Downloads.html.
Thank you for all the information you have taken the time to post here! It is incredibly helpful!! I have 4 kids (the youngest is only 2 weeks old). We recently figured out that my newborn has a severe milk protein allergy. My 3rd child had a milk protein allergy during his first year, too, but not nearly this severe. Your site has made it so helpful for me to be able to change my diet and still be able to eat food that I like without being overwhelmed! Thank you again!
I’m so glad I can help! Most of my updates are over at http://www.godairyfree.org, my main website, now, but I’ll do my best to add some updates here soon too! I hope you enjoy both and that all of your little ones are happy and healthy.
Alisa: You have a new fan. Just “Liked” you on FB, and added one of your recipes on my Pinterest page. Thanks for your contributions.
George
